Muscle Name: flexor digitorum profundus to digit 2

AKA:  musculus flexor digitorum profundus

Abbreviation:  FDP2

Spinal Nerve Roots:
    C7
    C8
    T1

Brachial Plexus Trunks:
    lower trunk

Brachial Plexus Cords:
    medial cord

Named Nerves:
    median nerve

Proximal Attachment:  ulna

Distal Attachment:  distal phalanges

Action:  flex hand, interphalangeal joints

Needle Insertion:  Approximately four centimeters distal to the medial aspect of the olecranon

Activation for EMG:  Flex the distal interphalngeal (DIP) joints.

Pitfalls:  If the needle is too superficial the flexor digitorum to the fourth and fifth digits will be sampled.

Notes:  May be abnormal in a proximal median mononeuropathy or anterior interosseous syndrome.
