Muscle Name: extensor digitorum brevis

AKA:  musculus extensor digitorum brevis

Abbreviation: EDB

    L4
    L5
    S1
Plexus:
    lumbosacral plexus

Named Nerves:
    deep peroneal nerve

    common peroneal nerve

    sciatic nerve

Proximal Attachment:  calcaneus

Distal Attachment:  proximal dorsal region of phalanges 2, 3 & 4

Action: Extension of digits 2 through 4

Needle Insertion: On the dorsolateral aspect of the foot approximately 1-2 centimeters distal to the lateral malleolus.

Activation for EMG:  Have the patient extend their toes.
