Extraneuronal Lewy bodies, H&E stain X 600

Although seen somewhat less frequently then extraneuronal neurofibrillary tangles of Alzheimer's disease, Lewy bodies may persist following degeneration of the parent neuron, giving the appearance of floating free within the neuropil (in the upper middle portion of the photograph).
