Central neurocytoma,   Intraoperative smear preparation x 400
Central neurocytomas demonstrate cytologic features quite similar to those of oligodendroglioma. Careful attention to nuclear detail (homogeneously hyperchromatic and oligodendroglioma, heterogeneously so in neurocytom -- so-called "salt and pepper chromatin pattern") may be useful in the differential diagnosis.
