Cavitated thalamic infarct, coronal section.

Thalamic infarct, secondary to occlusion of thalamoperforant arteries in a patient with long-standing, poorly controlled hypertension. Note also the presence of smaller "lacunar" infarcts surrounding the infarct cavity.
