Binswanger disease, coronal section through frontal pole.
Binswanger disease (also known as Binswanger's subcortical arteriosclerotic encephalopathy) is a form of vascular dementia which occurs in chronically hypertensive patient's and ultimately causes dementia due to this connection of white matter pathways secondary to multiple white matter infarcts. Similar gross changes may be observed in non-hypertensive patients with cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL).
