Ubiquitin IHC staining in the cortex of a person with early Alzheimer dementia. Ubiquitin is one of the cellular chaparones ("heat shock proteins"), and its accumulation within cellular compartments is a sensitive, though nonspecific, marker of chronic sublethal cellular injury.
