Gomori Trichrome, showing nemaline rods
The Gomori Trichrome stain is a versatile non-immune stain. It allows the visualization of many features not visible on H&E. For example, this sample of skeletal muscle is from a patient with nemaline rod myopathy. The nemaline rods are not visible on H&E, but show up as small, dark rods inside the muscle fiber on trichrome. Because trichrome may allow the visualization of different kinds of myopathy, it is more versatile than individual immune stains.
