Hereditary dysphasic dementia, coronal section of brain.
Frontotemporal lobar degenerations often demonstrate prominent abnormalities in language function at presentation, related to predominance of pathologic changes surrounding the Sylvian fissure. As demonstrated in this photograph, lobar degeneration is often bilaterally asymmetric.
