Fredreich Ataxia, whole mount myelin stained section of the thoracic spinal cord

Myelin staining is often used to demonstrate areas of axonal loss, as loss of myelin is much easier to appreciate than axonal loss. In Fredreich ataxia, degeneration can be identified in the spine no cerebellar tracts laterally and the ascending sensory tracts medially.
