        B) Left hypoglossal nerve which originate in the contralateral hypoglossal nucleus

        C) Left hypoglossal nerve which originate in the ipsilateral hypoglossal nucleus

ANSWERS AND EXPLANATIONS

A) Right hypoglossal nerve which originate in the ipsilateral hypoglossal nucleus

This answer is incorrect.

Although the fibers do originate in the ipsilateral hypoglossal nucleus which extends from the caudal medulla through most of the rostral medulla, the tongue deviates toward the side of the lesion (i.e., toward the weak side). In this case, this would be the left.   (See References)

B) Left hypoglossal nerve which originate in the contralateral hypoglossal nucleus

This answer is incorrect.

The fibers originate in the ipsilateral, not contralateral, hypoglossal nucleus which extends from the caudal medulla through most of the rostral medulla.   (See References)

C) Left hypoglossal nerve which originate in the ipsilateral hypoglossal nucleus

This answer is correct.

Damage to the hypoglossal nerve causes weakness of one side of the tongue and, because this is a lower motor neuron lesion, atrophy of that side of the tongue. The tongue deviates toward the side of the lesion (i.e., toward the weak side). The fibers originate in the ipsilateral hypoglossal nucleus which extends from the caudal medulla through most of the rostral medulla.   (See References)
