Occlusion of non-atherosclerotic blood vessels is most often due to embolization. This photographs demonstrates vascular occlusion with organization far more advanced than that of the accompanying parenchymal infarct, indicating that the intravascular process must have begun organization before occluding the blood supply to the adjacent brain parenchyma.
