Cortical venous thrombosis with hemorrhagic infarct, lateral surface of brain
As in the other regions of the body, occlusion of venous drainage leads to rapid hemorrhagic transformation of infarcted tissue secondary to persistent arterial perfusion. Note dilated cerebral veins in the region of the brain surrounding the hemorrhagic infarct.
