Hemorrhagic necrosis, cerebellar tonsils, inferior surface including medulla.
Tonsillar herniation, particulate one accompanied by a dynamic component of fluctuating intracranial pressure, may demonstrate bilateral hemorrhagic necrosis of the intermittently compressed cerebellar tonsils. It is, however, compression of the medulla which causes respiratory arrest and death of the patient.
