This answer is incorrect.


Though transversed by infected mononuclear cells, endothelial cells are not infected by HIV.  (See References)

This answer is incorrect.


Though astrocytes may be infected in some artificial culture conditions, there is no evidence for astrocyte infection in vivo  (See References)

This answer is correct.


Virally infected monocytes cross the BBB and fuse with microglial cells, resulting in the pathognomonic multinucleate microglial cells. Cytokine production from these cells causes morbidity resulting in HIV encephalopathy.  (See References)
