ANSWERS AND EXPLANATIONS

A) Behjet's disease

This answer is incorrect.

CNS inflammatory diseases can result in oligoclonal bands, but the percentage is not that high. Other causes are neuro-sarcoidosis, Guillain-Barre, and primary CNS vasculitis.  (See References)

B) Multiple sclerosis (MS)

This answer is incorrect.

These bands are seen in 83-94% of clinically definite multiple sclerosis. Note that CSF oligoclonal bands are not pathognomonic for MS.  (See References)

This answer is incorrect.

These bands are seen in around 50% of cases. Bacterial, tuberculous, spirochetal, and fungal CNS infections can produce CSF oligoclonal bands  (See References)

D) Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE)

This answer is correct.

Oligoclonal bands can be found in almost 100% of cases of SSPE. Note that the bands are "oligo".i.e 2-5 in number and are found in the gamma region. A single band is commonly seen in CSFs of otherwise normal healthy individuals.  (See References)
