PLEDs
Periodic Lateralizing Epileptiform Discharges (PLEDs). In this EEG, there are spike/wave complexes (epileptiform discharges) coming at regular (periodic) intervals from the right leads, but not from the left (lateralizing). PLEDs are a nonspecific indicator of cortical damage, and are seen in varied clinical settings including stroke and status epilepticus. They are also associated with herpes encephalitis; if seen in a clinical presentation suggestive of encephalitis, the diagnosis of herpes viral encephalitis must be considered.
