B) Arnold-Palmer malformation

This answer is incorrect.


This MRI shows a Chiari type I malformation. Arnold-Chiari is a name originally applied to the Chiari type II malformation. Arnold Palmer is a pro golfer. Alternatively, Arnold Palmer may refer to a tasty beverage consisting of a mixture of lemonade and iced tea.  (See References)

C) Chiari type III malformation

This answer is incorrect.


This MRI shows a Chiari type I malformation, with protrusion of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum. In a Chiari type II, the medulla and 4th ventricle would also be downwardly displaced. A Chiari type III malformation would include an occipital encephalocele, which is not seen in this image.  (See References)
