In the outpatient clinic setting, medical student teaching often follows the following chain of events:
- See a patient with a medical student
- Discuss the patient
- Prompt student for questions
- If no questions, ask questions of him/her
- Identify topics where knowledge base needs work
- Discuss and expound on those topics
It is not unusual for physicians to include multimedia in these discussions.
Some ways doctors may do this:- Look at this MRI / CT / X-Ray / EEG / Etc.
- Find a relevant article on the web…
- Look up this medication on your PDA…
This A fairly common, and arguably effective approach.
A solid library of good web-based teaching materials can augment face-to-face teaching.
